Genealogy & Ancestors (IGSS)
Your requirements may be as simple as a beautiful map of the townland, parish or county that your ancestors came from, on special paper or on the Web. If you do not need to identify the house or houses in which your ancestors lived, see here. However, if you do, read on because IGSS may be able to identify those houses on a personalised paper or Web map or your own GIS.
Alternatively, you may need detailed maps and tables showing the occupants of houses in one or more townlands from the mid-nineteenth century onwards.
By digitising elements of the Griffith's Valuation tables and maps for your area, IGSS can produce basic maps and tables which, experience with the X-PO Kilnaboy Mapping Project has shown, can then be enhanced by local knowledge to produce one or more maps and tables (or an animation) through time for poster, Web or local GIS use. By clicking on any particular house on your GIS, you will be able to see all the recorded occupants of that house and then that information can be further enhanced from local knowledge. Alternatively, a new house and its occupants through time can be identified, added to the GIS database and, again, further enhanced from local knowledge.
Your maps or GIS can, of course, be enhanced by elevation, archaeological monument, road and other data which IGSS can either survey for you specially or use copyright-free sources (for personal use), so that you can use your map or GIS freely for any non-profit purpose.
